ગઈ કાલે કરાંચીની જેલમાં સત્યાગ્રહી કેદીઓને રાષ્ટ્રીય ધૂનોના પાકાર માટે ફટકા પડવા, અને તેને બચાવ કરનારી ૨૪-૪-'રૂર. નોંધ જિલ્લા મૅજિસ્ટ્રેટે બહાર પાડી છે એ વાંચી બાપુ ખૂબ દુ:ખી થયા. આજે ઊઠીને પાછા એટલે ભાગ છાપામાં વાંચી જવાને માટે માગ્યો અને હૈયું વલોવાઈ ગયું. માલવીજી અને સરોજિની બંને પકડાયાની ખબર આજે આવી તેથી રાજીરાજી થઈ ગયા. વલ્લભભાઈ ને કહે : “ કહો હવે કાઈ બાકી રહ્યું છે ? જેટલાએ જેલમાં જવું જોઈતું હતું તે સૌ પહોંચી ગયાં છે ! ” એલ્વિનના કાગળનો આગળ ઉલલેખ આવ્યા છે. બિશપે એને ચર્ચમાં પ્રવચન કરવાની રજા ન આપી એ વિષે લખ્યું ૨૬-૪-૩૨ હતું અને સનાતની ખ્રિસ્તી તરીકે દેવળમાં જવાનું ન બને તે વિષે દુ:ખ વ્યક્ત કર્યું હતું. તે વિષે બાપુએ એને લખ્યું : "I wish you will not take to heart what the Bishop has been saying.
