વિ૦– Well, considering her social surroundings, it is not possible to say that these otherwise good things will also prove her blessings.
ફ્લો૦- How ?
વિ૦– You perhaps know that she is bound to marry, and we don't know whether her unknown husband and his people will relish these things.
ફ્લો૦- Why should she be bound to marry? She has a mind to remain as single as I am ? You mean you will be cruel to her and force her to marry — Such a sweet bird to be forced into marriage ? No, no, my good sir, I swear you shan't do anything of that kind ?
વિ૦- My good lady, you first get your point solved by her and her mother; and then we shall see. વિદ્યાચતુર હસતો હસતો બોલ્યો.
વાતો કરતાં કરતાં સર્વ દાદર ઉતર્યાં. ફ્લોરા ગાડીમાં બેસી ઘેર ગઈ. વિદ્યાચતુર ન્હાવા ગયો. સુન્દરે કુસુમનો હાથ ઝાલી રાખી છેટે ધર્યો, અને ચાલતી ચાલતી બોલી. “મેર મોઈ, ત્હારે હાથે એના ઓઠ અડકયા તે હાથ અજીઠા થયા – ધોઈ નાંખજે. એ ઓઠે શું નહી અડક્યું હોય ? આજ હાથ વટલાયા, કાલ મ્હોં વટલાવજે, ને પછી એના ઉપદેશથી કાળજું વટલાવજે !”
વિચારમાં પડેલી કુસમે ઉત્તર ન દીધો.
માત્ર ઓઠપર આંગળી મુકી ગણગણતી ચાલી. એકાંત શોધતી ચાલી અને ગણગણતી ગઈ. પાસે ઉભેલી કાકીને ન દેખતી ગણગણતી ગઈ. ગુણસુંદરીને શાંત પાડવા એક સંન્યાસીએ કહેલા શ્લોક સ્મરણમાં સ્ફુરી આવ્યા.
