આવતાં બાણોને વશ થશે. જે દેશમાં પિતામહ છે ત્યાં પિતામહની રૂચિઅરૂચિ કેવળ બુદ્ધિને વશ ન રહેતાં અન્ય અભ્યાસ અન્મે અધ્યાસને વશ રહે એવા
પ્રસંગ પણ આવે છે. પિતામહે દેશના અન ધર્મના કલ્યાણને અર્થે પ્રવર્તવું જોઈએ.
તેમ ન કરતાં કૌરવને આશ્રય આપી અર્જુનનો માર્ગ રોકે ત્યારે નીતિમાન્
અર્જુને એટલું જ કરવું કે પિતામહના મનમાંનાજ કાંઈક એવા શિખંડી
જેવા અભ્યાસ અને અધ્યાસ શોધી ક્હાડવા કે તેના સામું યુદ્ધ કરવામાંથી
પિતામહ નિવૃત્ત થાય અને શરશય્યામાં પડે. The Spirit of Tradition
is invincible. But find out an apparition of some of
the vagaries that are haunted by this Spirit and unman
his heart and keep yourself shooting from behind
the apparition. The Spirit of Tradition will then lie
prostrate upon a bed of arrows piercing his body
through a thousand new holes. અનુભવથી - રૂઢ અને સિદ્ધ
થયલા જ્ઞાનના દેહમાં આ વિધિથી અનેક છિદ્રો પડે છે. પણ પિતામહ
પડ્યા પછી પણ જીવે છે, રૂઢિઓ પડ્યા પછી પણ શરશય્યાપર જીવે
છે. સાત્વિકવૃત્તિવાળા સુપાત્ર ધર્મમૂર્તિ યુધિષ્ઠિર પાસે શ્રીકૃષ્ણ યોગેશ્વર
પિતામહ આટલા આયુષ્યનો પરમ લાભ લેવડાવે છે. શાંતિપર્વ અને
અનુશાસનપર્વ જેવી મઞ્જૂષાઓમાં ભરેલા ગંભીર ઉદાત્ત અને પરમબુદ્ધિથી
શોધી સંસ્કારેલા અનુભવરત્નોના અક્ષય ભંડાર પિતામહ પાસેથી લેઈ
લેઈ યુધિષ્ઠિર રાજા રાજ્યના અને પ્રજાના પરમ ક્ષેમના આધાર થયા.
What rare wisdom is stored up in the traditions and
customs of our nation ? While not yielding to what is
wrong and rotten in them, it is worth our while to see
that we do not allow them to pass away from our
midst before some wise and impartial soul-seers extract
the stores which the Spirit has preserved so long and
is only too willing to hand over to fit and willing
souls. In this hall of this Grandfather - Spirit we try
to sit as his apt pupils with His Highness at our
head and ever jealous when the Spirit seems to lean
in favour of the Kauravas.”
