સુન્દર કંઈ સમજી નહીં. ગુણસુન્દરી સાંભળી રહી – નીચું જોઈ રહી. અધિકાર-જાળથી અદૂષિત સ્ત્રી - ચિત્તમાં સરસ્વતીચંદ્ર ઉપરની પવિત્ર પ્રીતિના આ સ્વતંત્ર સંસ્કારનો પ્રતિધ્વનિ થયો. પોતાના સ્વામીને માથે આવેલો આરોપ અયોગ્ય છે એમ ક્હેવાયું નહી.
ચંદ્રકાત હસ્યો.

એકદમ એનો સ્વર બંધ થઈ ગયો. તે આરામ ખુરશીમાં ડુબી ગયો અને તેના મનમાં મૂક વિચારભાષા ઉદય પામી.
