સરસ્વતીચંદ્રે ઉત્તર દીધો નહીં. માત્ર નીચું જોઈ ચંદ્રકાન્તને આંંગળીયે વળગાડી પોતાની ગુફા ભણી ચાલ્યો અને સાધુઓ પાછળ પાછળ ચાલ્યા. આ બે જણની અને સાધુઓની વચ્ચેનું અંતર આમની કે તેમની ઇચ્છાથી વધ્યું તે જોઈ સરસ્વતીચંદ્ર બોલ્યો – ચાલતા ગયા ને વાતો કરતા ગયા.
“ચંદ્રકાંત, તું સત્ય બોલે તેમાં હું ના કેવી રીતે ક્હેવાનો હતો? મ્હેં ઘણાક જીવને દુઃખી કર્યા – ત્હારે પણ અંહી સુધી ધંધો છોડી, ગંગાભાભીને ઘેર એકલાં મુકી, મ્હારે માટે આથડવું પડ્યું.”
ચંદ્ર૦– હાસ્તો. સ્વજનને દુ:ખી કરી દમવાની આપની કળાની આ તો એક ન્હાનામાં ન્હાની ને થોડામાં થોડી ખુબી છે.
સર૦– ગાંગાભાભી ખુશીમાં છે ?
ચંદ્ર૦– તેમને મળો તો માલમ પડે.
સર૦– તેમને મ્હારે માટે બહુ લાગ્યું હશે.
ચન્દ્ર૦- તે તમે કયાં ગાંઠો એવા છો ?
સર૦– ક્હે તો ખરો.
ચંદ્ર૦- એ તો મુવાં હશે કે જીવતાં હશે.
સર૦- શું આમ બોલે છે ? તું ઘણું કઠણ બોલનારો છે તે હજી એવો ને એવો રહ્યો.
