૪૬ ઉષાકાન્ત. બનિ વચ્ચે ભસ્મસાત થશે. ઉષાકાન્ત પાછળ ફરીને જોયું તે માતાપિતાના શબ પણ ભડભડ બળતાં હતાં. જે શરીર ઉપર સહેજ ઉનું પાણી પડતાં સર્વને ભીતિ થતી તે જ શરીર ઉગ્ર તાપમાં સૂકાં લાકડાંની માફક બળતાં હતાં. જે માતાપિતાની હતિ આંખે બાલના લાડથી પ્રફુલ્લ થતી તે જ આંખો કેયલા જેવી કાળી થઈ સદાને માટે લુપ્ત થઈ હતી. પર સુનારને નિદ્રા સારી આવે છે. ખુલી હવામાં નગ્નાવસ્થામાં સૂતાં છતાં ટાસ્થી જાગી શકે એમ નથી. કારણ કે તરત જ ચારે ખુણે અગ્નિ સળગવામાં આવ્યો, અને આ અમિ માંસની શોધ કરતો શરીરને પોતાની જ્વાળાવડે ચાટવા લાગ્ય–શરીર બળતાં સુસકારે લાગવા ભા-તાપથી કાળી પડેલી ચામડી ફાડવા લાગ્ય-સાંધાઓ તેડવા લાગ્યો. પછી ધુમાડે પાતળા થવા લાગે અને રાતી ભરી રાખ વીખરાવા લાગી-છુટા છવાયાં હાડકાં હેની અંદર નજરે પડવા લાગ્યાં. મનુષ્યની આ અંત અવસ્થા સર એડવીન આનકૃત ‘લાઇટ એફ એશીયા.
