દળ્યા કર્યું. આંહી ગામમાં તો એની બડાઈ ઉતારવા માટે બધું મશ્કરીનું તોફાન જ હતું, એટલે થોડી વારે તો જળ જંપી ગયાં, પણ માણેકલાલભાઈ ભળકડા સુધી ઘંટીએથી ઉઠ્યા નહિ. ભરવાડણને આઠ દિવસનો પોરો મળી ગયો.

^[૧]કેશોદ અને વેરાવળ વચ્ચેના માર્ગે સવારને ટાણે એક ઘોડાનો ટાંગો વેગબંધ ચાલ્યો જાય છે. અંદર એક હથીઆરબંધ અંગ્રેજ પોતાની મડમ અને પોતાના નાના સુંવાળા એક બાળક સહિત બેઠો છે. એ અંગ્રેજ તો જુનાગઢ રાજના નવા નીમાએલ પોલીસ ઉપરી મેજર હંફ્રી છે. કાદુની ટોળીને જેર કરવાનું બીડું ઝડપીને એ બાહોશ ગોરાએ બંદોબસ્ત માંડ્યો

When the tonga was seen approaching end the outlaws realized that Humfrey himself was not in it, they deliberated whether their wrongs were not enough to justify them in murdering or at any rate carrying off his wife and child. But the counsels of the elders prevailed. Let us not touch women and children they said, or our own women will turn against us, So Mrs. Humfrey and the child went by unscathed and unwitting of their danger.
