chemistry in the German language than in English.
German should therefore be the language in which
all lectures on chemistry should be delivered in the
Universities of England. All that can be reasonably
proposed is that in England any one who wishes to
study advanced chemistry should also know German
so as to be able to consu the standard books on
the subject."

“ કાઈ દેશની માતૃભાષા પારકી ભાષા જેટલી–શાસ્ત્રીય વિચાર વ્યક્ત
કરવા જેટલી–પ્રગભ થઈ ન હાય ત્યાં સુધી ઉચ્ચ શિક્ષણમાં તેને ખેાધભાષા
તરીકે ઉપયાગ કરવા નહિ એવું કહેવું ભયભરેલું છે. આપણી માર્ક જ
જાપાને માતૃભાષાનું શિક્ષણમાંનું નિસર્ગસિદ્ધ સ્થાન પારકી ભાષાને દેવાના
પ્રયત્નમાં સે। વર્ષ સુધી પેાતાની શક્તિને અપવ્યય કર્યો હાત તે। હાલ
એ દેશની શી સ્થિતિ થાત એ વિચાર જ ભયંકર છે. હિંદુસ્થાનની
કાઈ ભાષાના એધભાષા તરીકે ઉપયાગ કરવાના ખ્યાલથી જ ઘણા લાકા
ડરે છે. પરંતુ આ ભીતિમાં જે ધેલછા છે તે ધ્યાનમાં આવવા માટે એવા
ખ્યાલ કરે। કે કાઇ માણસ ઈંગ્લાંડમાં જઈ ત્યાંના લોકેાને ઉપદેશ કરે કે
‘જર્મન ભાષામાં રસાયનશાસ્ત્ર પર અંગ્રેજી ભાષામાં છે તેના કરતાં વધારે
સારા ગ્રંથા છે, માટે ઇંગ્લાંડની યુનિવર્સિટીમાં રસાયનશાસ્ત્ર પરનાં વ્યાખ્યાને
જર્મન ભાષામાં આપવાં.' હુ તે જર્મન ભાષાના સર્વસામાન્ય ગ્રંથ વાંચી
શકાય એ માટે ઉચ્ચ રસાયનશાસ્ત્રને અભ્યાસ કરનારા દરેક
જર્મન ભાષાનું જ્ઞાન હાવું જોઇએ એટલું પ્રતિપાદન કરી શકાય.
