The bird's beautiful voice was not the voice of the nightingale, the Bird of Shadows, but the voice of the lark, the Sun Bird, who is never sad. ઉક્ત મૂળ વાર્તા ઉપરથી ગુજરાતીમાં બનાવેલી વાર્તા આ પ્રમાણે છે :- બુલબુલ અને કમળા એક મોટું એવું જંગલ હતું. એમાં એક ઊંચો ઊંચો કિલ્લો હતો. કિલ્લામાં એક સુંદર મહેલ હતો. મહેલમાં એક છોકરી રહે. એનું નામ હતું કમળા. કમળ જેવી જ એની રૂપાળી આંખો. કમળાને ગાવાનું મન ઘણું થાય પણ ગાતાં ના આવડે. આકાશમાં ઊડવાનું તો એને બહુ જ ગમે, પણ પાંખો વિના એ શી રીતે ઊડે ? રોજ સાંજે કમળા એ કિલ્લાની બારીએ બેસે ને બુલબુલની રાહ જુએ. ચાંદો ઊગે એટલે બુલબુલ આવે. કિલ્લાને કાંગરે બેસે ને ચાંદનીનું ગીત ગાય.
