test of excellence of a High School education, schools
will necessarily be forced to meet that demand and
the result will be, as I suggested, to drive us into a
uniformity that fails to take account of the distinctive
necessities of women. We must therefore do all in
our power to set a different standard or to create
a desire in the public mind and in the girls themselves
for an education which will allow girls or, at any
rate, a greater number of them to develop along
other lines. What we should aim to give them is a
practical knowledge of domestic subjects and laws of
health which will enable them to fulfil one side of
their duties as wives and mothers, reinforced by a
study of those subjects which will help most to widen
their interests and outlook.

“કન્યાએનું શિક્ષણ એ આજકાલ હેકરાઓના શિક્ષણનું આંધળું અનુકરણ
થઇ પડયું છે. કાઈ પરીક્ષા માટે છેકરીને અભ્યાસ કરવાની આવશ્યકતા હાય અને
તે દૃષ્ટિએ તેને અભ્યાસક્રમ ઠરાવવા એ ખરેખર અનુચિત છે. કારણ કે
તેનુ પરિણામ એવું આવે છે કે જે વિષયેા કન્યાઓને શીખવાની ઇચ્છા
હોય છે તેમાંના બધા નહિ તે ઘણાખરા વિષયેા એને પડતા મૂકવા પડે
છે. દાખલા તરીકે લેાકમતની માગણી એવી હાય કે મેટ્રિક્યુલેશનની
પરીક્ષા એ માધ્યમિક શિક્ષણની પરિપૂર્ણતાની કસેાટી ગણવી, તેા આ
માગણીને સંતાષતી શાળાએ નીકળશે, અને તેનું પરિણામ એ થશે કે મે
ધ્વનિત કર્યું છે તે પ્રમાણે આપણી બધી શાળાએ એકજ સંચામાંથી ની-
કળી હાય એવી થશે અને તેમાં સ્ત્રીએની વિશિષ્ટ જરૂરીઆતા પર ધ્યાન
અપાશે નહિ. તેથીજ લેાકા અને સ્ત્રીએ આગળ જુદું ધ્યેય મૂકવાના તે આવા
શિક્ષણના શાખ ઉત્પન્ન કરવાના પ્રયત્ન થવા જોઈ એ. જેથી કન્યાઓની
અધીની નહિ તે ઘણીખરીની-પ્રગતિ જુદા માગે થાય. આપણે સ્ત્રીઓને
એવા પ્રકારનું જ્ઞાન આપવું જોઈએ કે તેમાં ગૃઢવિષયક વ્યવહારિક માહિતી

તે આરોગ્ય સંબંધી નિયમો સમાવેશ થાય અન
સમાવેશ થાય. એમ થાય તેા પત્ની તે માતા
