Reform of temples, not their destruction, is necessary." તમારા સવાલોના આ ટૂંકા જવાબ પૂરતા છે. અસ્પૃશ્યતાનું જડમૂળથી નિવારણ કરવા માટે સહભાજન અને મિશ્રવિવાહ અનિવાર્ય નથી. આ એ સુધારા અલગ અલગ છે. અને હિન્દુ સમાજની બધી જ્ઞાતિઓએ એક દિવસ તે સ્વીકારવા પડશે. ૮૬ બળજબરીથી કશું થઈ શકે નહીં અને કરશું કરવું પણ ન જોઈ એ. ઉપવાસ અને એવા ઉપાયો લોકો પાસે તેમની મરજી વિરુદ્ધ કશું કરાવવા માટે નથી. એ તો લોકોને વિચાર કરતા તથા કામ કરતા કરી મૂકવા માટે છે. “ અસ્પૃશ્યો' જે હવે અસ્પૃશ્ય ન રહ્યા હોય તે તેઓ હિંદુ સમાજમાં શું છે ? મારા અભિપ્રાય એ છે કે આજે વર્ણવ્યવસ્થા નાશ પામેલી છે. સાચે બ્રાહ્મણ અથવા સા ક્ષત્રિય અથવા સાચે વૈશ્ય આજે નથી. આપણે બધા જ શદ્રો છીએ એટલે કે એક વણું છીએ. આ સ્થિતિ સ્વીકારવામાં આવે તો વસ્તુ બહુ સહેલી થઈ જાય છે. પણ આનો સ્વીકાર કરતાં આપણું અભિમાન ઘવાતું હોય તો આપણે બધા બ્રાહ્મણો કહેવડાવીએ. અસ્પૃશ્યતાનું નિવારણ કરવું એટલે ઊંચનીચના ભેદભાવને જડમૂળથી નાશ કરો. જે એમ કહે કે “હું બીજા માણસો કરતાં ચડિયાતી છું ? તે પોતાને હલકા પાડે છે. જે એમ કહે કે “ હું તે બધા માણસે કરતાં
