બીભત્સ ચિત્ર તેથી ઉપર છે.[૧] પ્રીતિયજ્ઞને નામે ભ્રષ્ટ દમ્પતીઓ પિતૃયજ્ઞની વેદીઓને તોડી પાડે છે, ને સ્થૂલ શરીરની તામસી વૃત્તિઓમાં લીન
થઈ જાય છે તે – ઓ – પેલા મ્હેં પ્રથમ બતાવેલા સત્રાયણના ભસ્મના
ગોટાની પાછળ આ રથૂલ પ્રીતિવાળાં પશુઓનાં ટોળાં મસ્તી કરી રહ્યાં
છે. જેવાં તે તેવાં માતાપિતા થતાં દેખાય છે ને આ સર્વ ભ્રષ્ટાચારને
અટકાવવા, નાગલોક ચારે પાસે દોડાદોડ કરી રહ્યા છે![૨] ક્ષુદ્ર મનુષ્યની
વાસનાઓને શાંત કરવા ને શાંત ન થાય તો નષ્ટ કરવા સુધીની
ધારણા કરી, નાગલોક એ મનુષ્યોની દૃષ્ટિએ અને વાસનાઓ
ભણી પોતાના વિષની વૃષ્ટિ કરી રહ્યા છે ! આહા ! એ વૃષ્ટિબલ
ભયંકર થાય છે. રસમાત્ર અને સ્ત્રી માત્રનાં મનોરાજ્યના પાયા

Gallantry becomes rampant at wells and tanks, and at inns and places of recreation frequented by private ladies and travelling lovers. - ↑ ૧ The wiser and cooler heads in the country longed for a remedy, and the age of reconstruction was followed by the age of reaction . . . .Child-marriages, seclusion of women, perpetual widowhood, and a lot of other things now known to us were accepted by this age to cure itself of the loathsome moral diseases which the methods of the age of reconstruction had brought into our Indian world as their latest results. The reactionary leaders attempted to stem the tide of moral debasement at its very source: They destroyed the temptations to man and woman in the name of love and courtship by ordering the disposal of girls before the age that would victimise them to the grossness and licenses of the age of libertines who shock our sense in the latest Sanskrit literature.. . The reactionary leaders introduced these and other drastic measures, to rid the land of the moral debasement that had become rampant in the land as the result of the riches, luxuries, free-thought and free-living, which the growth and prosperity of the Indian Empire had introduced among the people – among whom the individual had been asserting himself over the family as the family had asserted itself over the tribe. Similar circumstances transformed the Romans of sterner virtues into Romans of imperial luxuries when they fell into the abyss of vices which made the empire fall, The Moghals of Babar and Akbar fell under similar transformation in the time of Alamgir. The national life of a great people which was so crushed out at Rome and among the Romans by the want of the moral physician and physic, was also threatened by a similar plague at the close of our reconstruction period. But the physicians were ready in India, and the leaders of the reactionary period took upon themselves the cure of the country by utilizing the socialistic forces which were never extinct among their nation. The self-isolated higher castes with their gorgeous equipments of new marriage law and new social adjustments were made to crop up in the land to rid it of the new plague. Their physic subordinated the individual to the family, and the family to the caste, and the power of individual intellect and will to do mischief to the system was nipped in the bud with a set purpose.-(Private Notes).
